Laura Bryna Talks Spring Style on Urban Darling
Read Laura's other entries on Urban Darling here.Laura Bryna’s Spring wardrobe
More from darling Laura Bryna!
Ok, so with Spring here and Summer around the corner, I’ve been on a search for a really cute maxi dress. These dresses are so adorable, they come in fabulous colors, and they are lots of fun. They also follow the general rule: fitted up top, flowy on the bottom, or flowy on top, fitted on the bottom. But I have to say, when you have a size D cup, finding a dress like that, that you can wear with a bra, and, that hides your straps, is not easy. So I saw a commercial on TV for a product called Strap Perfect, and I’m telling you, THEY WORK! They come three to a package — black, clear, and nude. Great for all occasions. They are also fabulous underneath the very “in” sequin tanks, ethnic-inspired patterns from rompers to tanks, and definitely maxi dresses. They are totally hidden and make your boobs look like they are sitting high and mighty. They work for any size cup! It’s a great investment girlies! (read more...)

Bag Blogosphere Already Abuzz About LM Bags
Today, BagBunch raved, "I love what I've seen, and can't wait to see what Masquefa can do with a larger canvas." Neither can we! Read the rest of the article below:
Individuality means everything to Californian handbag designer Linda Masquefa. No more than five Linda Masquefa minaudieres of a single design are ever produced.
"I wanted to go for exclusivity," the designer explained. "If a woman has my bag, she won't see it walking down the street."
Each Linda Masquefa bag is handcrafted with exotic skins from Italy, including lizard, ostrich, calf hair, leather, python, stingray, and her favorite, crocodile.
"I believe it's so elegant, so pretty, so classic," she explained.
The simplistic designs lend themselves as easily to a dinner date as a glamorous soiree.
Considering their exotic skins and limited status, Linda Masquefa purses are surprisingly affordable. The pieces are priced between $800 and $2880. They are available from selected American boutiques and Linda Masquefa's online store.
While Linda Masquefa currently specializes in clutches, she hopes to design day bags, a pet carrier, and belts. I love what I've seen, and can't wait to see what Masquefa can do with a larger canvas.

Linda Masquefa Featured in OC Register
Linda Masquefa’s minaudieres aren’t for everyone, but that’s not the point.
“I wanted to go for exclusivity,” said Masquefa, 53, of Aliso Viejo. “If a woman has my bag, she won’t see it walking down the street.”
Or at least it is extremely unlikely. Masquefa’s small evening clutches are made of exotic skins and typically only five or fewer of each design are produced. The pieces cost $800 to $2,880 each.
Masquefa, who was born in Santa Ana and grew up in Newport Beach (with the maiden name Jump), was inspired to get into the luxury handbag business during a trip to Central and South America in 2008.
Her previous boss at an electronic check company was interested in importing and exporting crocodile products. That led them to a crocodile farm in Panama. (read full article...)

EKC Client Laura Bryna Blogs Fashion on Urban Darling!
EKC client, international country-pop recording artist Laura Bryna, joins the Urban Darling team as a guest fashion blogger!Read Laura's first entry:
Happy New Year Everybody! I’m Laura Bryna from Mount Airy, Maryland – a recording artist, actress, television host, but most of all a girlie girl to the enth degree. I am a total fashion nut who is always looking for fun, funky things to add to my wardrobe, makeup drawers, and hair paraphernalia. Girlieness, if that’s a word, has always been in my blood.
My mom, who is my whole life, went to school for fashion merchandising, so really, I believe, I’ve learned from the best. Growing up I used to watch her put on her makeup and then came the big question, “what should I wear today?” That’s where the illness began for me! (read more)

David Applebaum Talks to BravoTV About His Designs
Check out Applebaum's photos from the recent "Launch My Line" red carpet launch party:Bravotv.com: Expand on why you wanted to start your own fashion line.
I create environments that both are beautiful and attempt to make one feel comfortable and confident. I have always wanted to know if I could translate that into something as intimate as designs that one can wear, not just walk through. Years ago I designed the flagship store and showrooms for a major clothing company. I spent a lot of time with the designers and we would feed off of each other in ways that enhanced each of our designs. They offered me a job, but I was on a different path. As I have gotten busier with my architecture and worked on different projects, I have always wondered… what if…
Bravotv.com: How do you think your area of expertise contributes to creating a fashion line?
It is all about starting with a blank canvas and using the basic tenants of design to create something beautiful. I like detail, movement, flow and proportion and translating that into clothing seems natural. I felt very comfortable designing, however as this was a totally different medium I could have used more time, more material choices and more sewing help… but that would go for my fellow contestants as well. The fun was trying to create something from nothing in a very short amount of time… like pulling the rabbit out of the hat. My architecture background was helpful, but in many ways this experience was more like a poker game. The outcome is determined not just by talent, but by the cards that you are dealt and how you play them. (read more...)

Lorena Sarbu in Beverly Hills Times
Lorena Sarbu: Elegant, Timeless Couture
For designer Lorena Sarbu the world of design has always represented infinite magical possibilities. Through her couture creations, Lorena envisions and engenders the wealth of this artistic medium which embodies whether in premium or in trickle down styling—the influence and relevance of fresh and re-imagined design. Having designed for socialites, young and veteran Hollywood actresses, and women who know and appreciate exquisite design artistry, Lorena’s next chapter will unveil her ready to wear line to the world.
Lorena’s passion for design began as a child in Romania. Constructing a couture wardrobe for her collection of dolls was not miscellaneous play- time, but a forecast into her future. As a young adult, following the strong academic back- ground example placed by her parents, she studied psychology at the local University. Even though she excelled in this curriculum, the dreams she had as a little girl of being a designer never left her thoughts. Lorena knew her path and her calling was in the fashion industry. Upon graduating, she moved to Chicago where she formally began her studies in design. She implemented her major study with a minor in business. During her education process, Lorena continued to work on her own design ideas, building from a foundation of classic melded with elegantly sexy. This would be an integral blueprint equation for the unique, timeless and refreshing signature of a Lorena Sarbu creation. (read more...)

Lorena Sarbu Talks Red Carpet Style

Beverly Hills-based fashion designer Lorena Sarbu dishes to the Yahoo Shine fashion & beauty channel about dressing Emmy winners for the red carpet:
"I don’t know about you, but the highlight of any awards show is the Red Carpet coverage. I’m more interested in what the celebrity is wearing than what there nominated for and I am very guilty of switching the channel once the red carpet segment is over! So how excited was I to interview fashion designer Lorena Sarbu, whose fashion creations have graced the red carpets of this year’s Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards shows! She went from designing dresses for her dolls as a child to designing dresses for celebrities such as Sharon Lawrence, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Tamara Braun (one of my favorite soap stars!). She was wonderful enough to talk to me about her design inspirations, her favorite designs and celeb clients, as well as her own line which launches in 2010!" (read more...)

HOT From Koch :: Lorena Sarbu Gown Delivers Sensual Elegance as Shohreh Aghdashloo Wins at 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards!
From the red carpet to the awards podium, Shohreh Aghdashloo dressed in a striking iridescent blue Lorena Sarbu couture, was a vision of beauty and grace amongst her peers during the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy awards. The ethereal and light Lorena Sarbu gown embodied glamorous perfection, employing Italian silk chiffon melded with an exquisitely pleated bustier. Delicate expanding straps kissed Aghdashloo’s shoulders as the gown’s rear criss-cross straps acted as elegant, enticing framework for her back. On Sunday, September 20, 2009, Aghdashloo captured her first Emmy win as designer Lorena Sarbu continues to make her design presence felt at Hollywood’s biggest television awards ceremonies.Shohreh Aghdashloo’s win comes in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her powerful performance in HBO’s “House Of Saddam.” This was Aghdashloo’s first Emmy nomination. But the Iranian born beauty is not a newcomer to the awards arena. In 2003, Aghdashloo skyrocketed to fame with her portrayal of Nadereh Behrani in “House of Sand and Fog” opposite Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly. Her performance earned her an Oscar nomination and top honors, such as the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female, Los Angeles Film Critics Association award for Best Supporting Actress and the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actress. Aghdashloo’s other diverse credits include, “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2,” “X-Men: The Last Stand” and FOX’s “24.”
Aghdashloo’s triumph places Lorena Sarbu’s designs in Emmy’s winner circle for a second time this year. During the 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards held earlier this month, Tamara Braun walked Emmy’s victory steps in a stunning Lorena Sarbu pewter chiffon and silk mermaid gown.
Passionate about marrying design creation with the talent’s own unique personal aura and allure, Lorena Sarbu’s custom creations are alive in so many ways, which set her apart from the rest of the couture set. The Emmy’s has witnessed the wondrous enchantment of Lorena Sarbu… Oscar is next!
