Kudos to Women Filmmakers At Park City Fete

Another media release for Women Filmmakers

HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. and PARK CITY, UTAH – January 16, 2009 – Two spunky non-profits are determined to create more opportunities for women in film and they will be spotlighting the success of women filmmakers during the Sundance and Slamdance Festivals. On Sunday, January 18, The Fund for Women Artists and the Alliance of Women Directors(AWD) will host “A Celebration of Women Filmmakers,” where they will salute the women filmmakers at Sundance and Slamdance.

The statistics on women in the film industry are daunting. Dr. Martha Lauzen of San Diego State University reports that only six percent of the top 250 films of 2007 were directed by women and more than 20 percent had no women at all in the key creative roles of director, writer, cinematographer, editor, producer or executive producer.

To beat these tough odds, The Fund for Women Artists and the Alliance of Women Directors recognize that successful female role models and new alliances of filmmakers and audience members are essential.

The Fund for Women Artists will invite film industry members to join their colleagues around the world for the second international Support Women Artists Now Day (SWAN Day) on March 28, 2009. SWAN Day is a celebration of women artists in all disciplines, held annually on the last Saturday of March as the grand finale of Women’s History Month. The goal of SWAN Day is to honor the full diversity, beauty and power of women's creativity.

The Fund for Women Artists is a non-profit organization that provides women artists with the resources they need through free online funding, networking, advocacy information, and by building alliances of women artists and supporters. The Fund for Women Artists’ website serves more than 500,000 visitors a year.

The Alliance of Women Directors is a coalition of working women film directors. AWD provides peer support, and furthers the art, craft and visibility of women directors through seminars, screenings, networking dinners and mentorship program.

“A Celebration of Women Filmmakers” will be held on Sunday, January 18 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Queer Lounge, 608 Main Street, Park City, Utah.
