26-year-old Hansen is known in the racing world as the bad boy of motocross, boasting smooth style inherited from his famous dad, champion rider Donnie Hansen, and possessing a laidback attitude that hardly hints at the fact that he has been racing professionally since high school. When Hansen won X Games 14 in 2008 as the underdog, everyone thought it was a fluke. But when he took home the gold again the following year, it became clear that Josh Hansen was here to stay.
Fans were excited when it was announced in January that Mitch Payton had selected Hansen to ride the West Region for Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki this year, following his hiatus from racing in 2009. Regarded as one of a handful of riders with the ability to win a West Regional race, Hansen boasts several top-five placings thus far, and is confident he can earn that elusive podium finish before the season’s end by harnessing the power and speed he has displayed during heat races and channeling it into the main event.
His ultimate goal this year is to surprise fans with a win at the East/West Shootout in Las Vegas on May 8, right before he rakes in another X Games victory in August – a feat that fans know Hansen is more than capable of.
